The President of Postal Workers Union Local 812 is pleased the threat of a lockout has been dropped by Canada Post.
Canada Post made the move on Sunday on the assumption the Union would not issue it’s strike notice, something Tami Brushey says they have no interest in doing.
“There are no plans to strike, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers wants to keep working and would prefer not to be locked out. We do not want a strike, we are interested in negotiations.”
Federal Minister of Labour Maryann Mihychuk says they would also prefer a negotiated settle instead of a work stoppage.
The two main issues are changes to the pension plan and appropriate compensation for rural mail carriers.
Canada Post’s last offer was made on June 21st.
