Santerno relishing final BCHL season with Smoke Eaters

Smithers product Luke Santerno is entering unchartered waters.

The 20-year old is in his third and final BCHL season with the Trail Smoke Eaters and is searching for that elusive scholarship to the NCAA.

After his midget hockey days concluded, Santerno headed down to the Cariboo to suit up for the 100 Mile House Wranglers of the KIJHL where he racked up 47 points in 45 games.

From there, he played 2 seasons with the Cowichan Valley Capitals where he collected 50 points in 109 games on the island.

Earlier this summer, he was dealt to Trail and is enjoying his best start with 8 points in 7 games this season.

Santerno credits the teammates around him for the fast start. “I credit everything to the people playing on my line were rolling right now and working really good together.”

As his final season of Junior A hockey winds down the 20-year old will look back fondly of his time in the BCHL.

“I am going to miss the guys and having a good time with them, my time in Trail has been good and I had 2 great years in Cowichan so all the relationships I have made stand out to me.”

Trail is 2-5 on the season and lost 6-4 on Thursday in Prince George to the Spruce Kings where My Bulkley Lakes Now caught up with him.
