A chimney fire in a workshop had the Smithers Fire Department out last night on Henry Rd. at 9 p.m.
The 23 fire fighters on scene were able to save the structure after the fire was believed to have started on the roof.
Fire Chief Keith Stecko says the structure had a combination oil and wood burning appliance.
Stecko is reminding people to be vigilant with their chimneys.
“To make sure that you’re following the manufactures recommended guidelines around maintenance and make sure you’re following the cycle of when things need to be checked…it’s extremely important,” says Stecko.
Stecko says they were able to put the fire out in about 2.5 hours.
