Vanderdeen faces Arson, B&E charges

The man arrested in relation to Sunday’s fires at Pacific Inland Resources is set to appear in court Thursday.

49-year-old Edward Calvin Vanderdeen of Smithers faces Break and Enter, Arson Causing Bodily Harm, and Arson Damaging Property charges.

Police say the majority of the damages were in the main sawmill’s electrical system and to the interior structure of the outbuilding.

Police used a search warrant to inspect Vanderdeen’s home. The Terrace RCMP Forensic team is still investigating.

Around 10 PM Sunday night, Police got a call of two fires at PIR. Upon arriving, they said the blazes were “intentionally-set.” Firefighters and mill employees worked quickly to put the blazes out. One mill worker went to the hospital and was later released.

Vanderdeen is scheduled to be in court at 1:30 PM.
