NCLGA apologizes for letter that called Green-NDP agreement unconstiutional

The North Central Local Government Association has voted to rescind a letter the president of the association wrote to the Lieutenant Governor of BC.

The letter called the provincial Green-NDP agreement unconstitutional saying it fettered the ability of MLA’s to fulfil constitutional duties.

Chair of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako Bill Miler says writing the letter was an arbitrary move.

“It should have been fully discussed with the membership before something like that went out because it could potentially have an impact on our relationship with the provincial government no matter how it forms,” says Miller.

The NCLGA said in a statement they’ll be writing an apology letter to members, MLAs and the Lt. Governor.

“The NCLGA Board sincerely regrets this and will be taking immediate action to ensure this does not happen again,” said the NCLGA in the statement.

“The NCLGA unanimously reaffirms that it is a non-partisan association, and recognizes that the contents of the open letter in question have been perceived as partisan, inappropriate and untimely.”

The NCLGA represents 40 local governments in the north and central areas of the province.
