Telkwa Mayor Darcy Repen is reminding residents to pay their property taxes on time or face some steep penalties.
The deadline is July 4th for people in Telkwa – that means payments via mail have to be received by that date. If not, a 10 per cent late penalty applies.
Council passed a resolution in February calling for municipalities to have more authority over taxation penalties. The aim is to have penalties based on how late the payment is rather than the 10 per cent penalty.
Repen ultimately wants to see the number of late payment penalties decrease this year.
