Open house at Northern Lights Wildlife Society in Smithers this weekend

For one a day a year the public gets a chance to visit the rescued animals at the Northern Lights Wildlife Society in Smithers

Co-founder Angelika Langen says the rehabilitation centre opens up on Canada Day.

She hopes to educate people.

“We want people to understand what kind of impact we have on wildlife when we’re out here – a lot of these animals are orphaned because their mother got hit by a car, or got caught up in barbed wire,” explains Langen.

She says right now they have 11 bear cubs, some baby deer, moose and an otter among the other wildlife.

This week, they’ll be releasing the remaining bear cub rescues from last year, including one grizzly – last year they have a record 45 orphaned cubs.

The open house at the centre in July 1st from 10 am until 6 pm.
