Smithers Fire Rescue is waiting for a call to head down south help battle wildfires burning across the province.
“The Town of Smithers is prepared to support whatever endeavour is required. We stand ready to deploy. We have a team and equipment ready to deploy,” says Fire Chief Keith Stecko.
Stecko says they have a group of five firefighters and one engine that are ready to make the trip.
He says with a full compliment of 45 firefighters, they’ll have enough to hold the fort here at home.
