Smithers RCMP say two dogs were left alone in a hot vehicle

The Police are reminding the public that the inside of a vehicle can be a dangerously hot place during the summer.

The RCMP say two dogs were reportedly left alone in a vehicle in the Smithers Mall parking lot for 15 minutes.

Mike Moore says he saw the dogs in the car Monday afternoon with the window cracked a few inches.

The police say it was about 25 degrees that afternoon.

“If you were left in the car for 18-20 minutes with the windows cracked an inch to two inches, what would happen to you? So the dogs can’t speak for themselves, the children can’t speak for themselves,” says Moore.

RCMP spoke to the man with the dogs who agreed it’s better to leave the dogs at home next time.

In the event a baby or young child is left alone in a vehicle, immediately contact the RCMP or call 911.
