Air Quality Advisory issued in Smithers

The Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Northern Health Authority, issued an Air Quality Advisory for Smithers at 1 PM Wednesday.

High concentrations of fine particulates (PM2.5) are developing from wood smoke. These are then getting trapped under the cold air.

The Ministry recommends that residents avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and to stay indoors with windows and doors closed.

Air-conditioned spaces can help reduce fine particulate exposure, which is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, lung and/or heart disease.
