Davies’ 5 points lead fish to 9-4, Game 1 win

The Smithers Steelheads stormed into Kitimat Saturday and took its playoff opener 9-4.

12 Steelheads recorded, at least, one point in the playoff victory, lead by Zach Davies who had a hat trick and two assists.

Coach Tom DeVries says Davies is finding his groove.

“He’s playing lots on D (defense) now. I think he started out playing forward but D is his real, actual position,” DeVries says, “He’s figured out the league and how players work and he’s doing really well.”

The series now shifts to Smithers, and DeVries hopes to see the fans’ support.

“I think that place can fit 800 people and I’d love to pack it. It’d be great to see.”

Smithers-Kitimat Game 2 will be Saturday, February 6th at the Civic Centre. Puck drop is at 7:30 PM.

Elsewhere in CIHL playoffs, Terrace River Kings took game 1 5-2 against Prince Rupert Rampage. In the Eastern Division, Quesnel Kangaroos opened their playoffs with a 9-5 win over Lac La Hache Tomahawks.
