Cullen calls Legacy Fund changes “bizarre”

It seems everyone has an opinion on the Provincial budget, including members of the federal government.

NDP MP Nathan Cullen says it’s “bizarre” that Premier Clark’s Legacy Fund will no longer be paid for with LNG profits, but with taxpayer money.

“Coincidentally, ironically, the same amount of money that they raised in MSP hikes this year is the amount that has now gone into this fund that is supposed to put a chicken in every pot,” he says.

He says the amount of MSP hikes equals the total going into the fund.

“It’s showing the ‘overcommitment, under-delivery’ from the Clark government on the economy, and particularly LNG, as being quite problematic and I just don’t know if broken promises are the way they want to fund the Province.”

The Canadian Federation of Taxpayers says the change could mean 124 million more dollars in MSP taxes.
