Steels take series opener 4-1

The Steelheads are just one win away from its fourth CIHL title in five years.

Smithers defeated the Williams Lake Stampeders 4-1 on the road Saturday.

The team now holds a 1-game-to-none lead in best-of-3 series.

Head Coach Tom DeVries says goalie David Little was his MVP.

“He made some huge stops at huge times. They had a 5-on-3 (power play) at the end of the game, I don’t even know if they got a whole lot of scoring chances but when they did, he stopped them.”

The team has won 14 of its last 15 games.

Game two will be in Smithers on Saturday, March 5th. Puck drops from the Civic Centre will be at 7:30 PM.
