Donaldson sending one local teen to Canucks game for problem solving

Doug Donaldson and Dan Hamhuis are teaming up to get you to a Canucks game.

The Stikine MLA is holding the sixth annual “Score one for Solutions!” contest.

If you’re between 13- and 18-years-old, Donaldson is asking you to write a 500-word essay or poem about a problem you’ve faced and how you fixed it.

Donaldson says sharing these experiences can help him in Victoria.

“If an issue that comes up that is of concern to young people, I can say ‘this is what I hear from young people in Stikine and what they’re thinking about.'”

Unlike years past, Donaldson decided to keep this year’s topic open. He recently heard a wide range of issues from a grade 8 class.

“(One student) how to find balance in their lives, a young person said relationships, another young person said alcohol and drugs, so you know it’s wide open.”

The winner will get:
• 2 Tickets to the March 19th game between Vancouver Canucks and vs. St. Louis Blues game (young person and parent/guardian)
• 2 return Central Mountain Air tickets
• 2-night accommodation (double occupancy) for the night of March 19th.

To submit, you can drop off your work at Donaldson’s Smithers (1175 Main St) or Hazelton office (4345 Field Street), give it to your teachers, or email it ([email protected]).

A three-judge panel will decide the winner. The deadline is Thursday, March 3rd at 3 PM.
