Coming out with a balanced budget this week wasn’t without some tough decisions this year.
Chairperson Les Kearns says the closing of Lake Kathy School was one of them.
“This year has been to close an elementary school – Lake Kathlyn. No one likes to see their school closed, it’s the fabric of the community. But it comes down to if you want to put your money into buildings or into kids – we wanted to put it into kids.”
Kearns says the board was dealing with a 750 thousand dollar cut they received for declining enrolment – but now with the school closure, enrolment has balanced out.
Kearns says the school closure should save enough money to cover up the funding cut.
