Smithers will be partnering with The Bulkley Valley Concert Association to get some money from the Federal Government for National Aboriginal Day.
Combining the event with Canada Day (next year is Canada’s 150th birthday) is part of the plan.
“Of course, 2017 is the Sesquicentennial for Canada – 150 years as a country. It’s an opportunity not with just Aboriginal Day, but Canada Day and other festivities, to do something significant,” says Bachrach.
With both joining in on the application with a deadline Friday – the event can see more dollars.
“With that partnership, hopefully, we can secure some federal dollars. ..we can hire a coordinator and save some town resources and do something for the community.”
The town will be liaisoning with the volunteer organization, that spearhead the grant, to meet the deadline on Friday.
