The town of Smithers has seen some reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2004 of about 27 per cent.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach questions the numbers.
“We’ve been making investments in energy efficiencies for a number of years. We were wondering, have we made a dent in out overall carbon footprint?”
He has ideas of using heat transfer technology to use the waste heat from the three ice plants in town to heat the water of the pool.
“It’s something we’ve long talked about. Hopefully, with the Regional District, we can use a feasibility study to see if we can make that work,” says Bachrach.
The town will be submitting their Climate Action Report for 2015 June 1st.
