Smithers park to be renamed ‘Gordon L. Williams Park’ in honour of former mayor

The Park on the corner of Main St. and Highway 16 in Smithers will be getting a new name this Saturday.

The soon to be ‘Gordon L. Williams Rotary Park’ will be a dedication to the former Mayor, town Councillor, Village commissioner and longtime Rotarian.

“Someone who’s put a lot of heart and soul into our community, and it’s always great to be able to honour folks like that,” says Mayor Taylor Bachrach.

The rotary park will reflect on Williams’s contribution to the community. “Hopefully people that use the park in the future will take a minute to reflect on his contribution.”

Bachrach says that park by Subway and the museum across the street saw significant improvements directly from the volunteer efforts of the Smithers rotary.

“Being able to serve the community and seeing the community evolve. it’s something i look forward to speaking about with Mr. Williams in the near future,” says Bachrach. relating in his experiences as a mayor.

A ceremony will unveil a play and sign in Williams’s honour this Saturday.
