Smithers council has land set aside for SCSA’s affordable housing plans

The town of Smithers has set aside some land for a proposed affordable housing unit in town

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says it will be portion of the LB Warner property at Main Street and 10th Ave.

“If it will look like a long-term lease or a transfer of the actual title is yet to be established,” says Bachrach. “I think council’s intention is for us to have the land be our contribution towards the success of the project.”

A project in the hands of the Smithers Community Services Association – they’re planning on building and renting 15, two-bedroom units costing an estimated 3 to 5 million dollars, looking to the province to cover 20 per cent.
