The Gitxsan have issued an eviction notice to sport fishermen, the forest industry and CN rail to stop all operations on their 33,000 square kilometers of land.
The eviction will go into effect on August 4th.
Gitxsan negotiator Gwaans Bev Clifton Percival says the province has failed to seek consent for the operations and have illegally given away Gitxsan land to neighbouring bands.
“It is certainly building on the fraudulent offer of Gitxsan land in the AIP process with our neighbours We stopped the talks with LNG and this is our next step.”
She says so far the nation has heard no response from the province on the stalled LNG talks or the eviction notice – issued this morning.
She says next week Gitxsan leaders will be meeting to strategize on how to proceed with implementing the eviction.
