BC’s Consumer Price Index rises 2.0% in June

BC’s Consumer Price Index rose 2.0% in June according to Stats Canada.

Canada’s inflation rate held steady at 1.5% last month.

Food prices in the province also spiked 1.7% on a year-over-year basis after posting a 2.5% gain in May.

That is the lowest increase in that category since August of 2014.

BC also outgained the country in another section according to Analyst, Michel Sekimonyo.

“The shelter index was up 1.7% year-over-year in BC compared with a 1.1% increase in May where at the national level the shelter index went from 1.4% in May to a 1.6 gain in June.”

Meat prices in BC also went down a paltry 0.1% which is lower than the national rate of 0.3%.
