Cullen weighs in on pot sales south of the border and the future here

With Washington state now offering shops that legally sell marijuana comes questions from Canadians over what will happen with Canadian legislation surrounding pot in the future.

NDP Skeena Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen says the NDP support a decriminalization approach.

“If you’re seeing American state after American state bring on some form of decriminalization or legalization then one of the central arguments against our approach that was made by the Conservatives was that it would cause problems with the U.S. border because they are so tough on drugs. Well that has changed.”

He says the current wild west style in B.C. is contributing to more powerful marijuana and increased gang and criminal activity.

Cullen called out the Conservatives as the only party still stuck in the past but says the NDP is solidly on the side of decriminalization.

Both the federal Liberal and Green parties have also come out in support of softening marijuana laws in the country.
