Smoke in the air from fire south of Burns Lake

The Northwest Fire Centre says crews are closely monitoring a wildfire burning about ninety kilometers south of Burns Lake near the Chelaslie River.

The fire centre’s Olivia Pojar says the fire is currently classified as a modified response which means it is being allowed to burn within specific boundaries.

“If it crosses certain trigger points ahead of time then it would be actioned. It’s actually between a bunch of bodies of water and it is in an area that is very remote.”

She says residents in Burns Lake, Southside and Fraser Lake may notice smoke in the air from the blaze which is about five hundred and fifty hectares in size.

Pojar says the hot weather has created very dry forests and people need to be extra careful not to spark a fire when out on the weekend.
