Fire hazard level upgraded to ‘Moderate to High’ this week, and into the weekend

A forecast of warmer weather and some wind throughout the weekend adds to the caution for fires with the fire hazard rating bumped up to the Moderate to High rating.

“We we’re looking at a fairly low hazard rating for June and most of July. It’s increased rapidly this week,” says Smithers Wildfire Information Officer Haley Williams. “And there isn’t rain until later into(next)week. So we’ll probably see a higher hazard into next week.”

She says there’s no restrictions for campfires or open burning, but don’t have fires larger than a metre and a half and make sure they’re properly extinguished.
