Smithers RCMP have arrested a man for sexual assault.
On Monday just after three p-m, RCMP found a man sexually assaulting a female behind the Smithers library on Alfred Avenue.
He was immediately arrested for sexual assault and removed from the scene by police.
The 59 year old female victim, who had a laceration to her head, was almost unconscious and as a result was taken to hospital by EHS and was released from hospital later that day with minor injuries.
39 year old Randy Edward Patrick is facing charges of sexual assault and indecent act, and remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
The persons involved in the assault knew each other and police consider this an isolated incident.
