News has come out about the passing of Chief Marjorie McRae of Gitanmaxx, who was known as an advocate for children and families.
Local MP Nathan Cullen spoke to the Moose about her passing, and her legacy.
“An incredibly powerful Gixsan woman and chief from Hazelton who suddenly died. On education and women’s rights, and a whole bunch of issues that mattered particularly to young people, She was an amazing champion. I’m still trying to figure out what happened and what we’re going to do next, because she occupied such an incredible place.”
The Provincial NDP Party released a statement honoring her stories of ‘reaching out to help families, the difference she made in her community and of her firm voice speaking for First Nations at the provincial and federal levels.’
