‘Wild Kidz Camp’ will hopefully continue next year

Kids finished up their week of learning about the outdoors through a free ‘Wild Kidz Camp’ put on by the Bulkley Valley Rod and Gun Club and the BC Wildlife Federation.

Brian Atherton of the non-profit BV Rod and Gun Club says it was a great educational opportunity for the kids.

“It’s been a great partnership with the community at large…this week they went to the fish hatchery…so certainly they’ve learned a lot about the environment.”

The kids were able learn archery, rifle shooting as well as learn about the ecosystem and the wildlife of the area and how to respect it.

Atherton plans on running something similar next year with help of the local supporters in the community.

“We’re very fortunate to have it here in Smithers. They (BC Wildlife Service) aren’t going to be here next year, but we’re certainly going to take what we learned this year and team up with the local supporters and see if we can do something next year.”
