Kathlyn Creek Bridge construction west of Smithers set to start soon

Improvements to the bridge over Kathlyn Creek culvert on highway 16 just west of Smithers is expected to start soon.

The 3.2 million dollar project will see the bridge replaced with a clear span bridge, aimed at improving fish habitat and passage in the creek.

safety and an increased capacity along the busy route are also important aspects according to Transportation Minister Todd Stone.

“Highway 16 is a key corridor for the transportation of people and goods in Northern B.C. and these improvements will increase the safety and capacity of this crossing
and provide a more efficient route for commercial traffic in the region.”

The project is expected to be finished by next spring, with plans for a 2-lane detour during construction.

A contract for 1.49 million has been awarded to Surespan Construction of Vancouver.
