Wildfire and evacuation update for Tetachuck Lake/Chelaslie River area

An update on a wildfire burning near the Chelaslie River.

An evacuation order has been extended to include the north east side of Tetachuck Lake and extends to Ucha and Intata Reach on Natalkuz Lake.

The Northwest Fire Centre’s Olivia Pojar says two cabins have been evacuated in that area and BC Parks has closed Entiako Provincial Park to recreational use and has issued an evacuation order for anyone at those cabins.

“It has burned approximately 13,000 hectares and there are 17 wildfire management branch personnel on the scene along with three helicopters. Last night and today they actioned the fire with two air tankers to support structural protection and a structural protection unit has been deployed to the fire.”

Pojar says despite growing in size the fire is still classified as a modified response but crews are working to protect the cabins in the area.

The hot, dry weather is expected to continue with winds today and tomorrow predicted to gust up to 30 kilometers an hour.

For more information on the evacuation order call the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako.
