Local MP Nathan Cullen will soon begin a riding-wide tour of open houses on electoral reform, which stops in Smithers next Friday.
Cullen and a committee are working on a new electoral system to replace the current “first-past-the-post” method.
In his travels, he’s heard that Canadians want to feel like their vote matters.
“That they’re going to be influential in what happens in the country and that we don’t get these real distortions where the current government got less than 40% of the votes, but, under our system, have 100% of the power.”
Everyone is invited to the Old Church for the event, which begins at 7 PM.
