Clean yards mean fewer bears

Ripe fruit hanging from trees or lying in your yard may be attracting bears.

A friendly bear in your yard might seem harmless, but Deputy Chief with the BC Conservation Officer Chris Doyle notes the visit could be bad news later.

“They’re becoming habituated, they may become food conditioned. They’re comfortable around people, then they may become aggressive in their search for food whether it be fruit trees or other attractants that may be around.”

Doyle says wildlife interactions spiked last month. There were 3805 reported.
