Following the Huckleberry Mine Closure last month, the Northwest Community College is looking to transition those that lost their job into the natural gas sector.
Their Working in Natural Gas Program(WING) helps people that are unemployed receive training for free.
Regional Director Regina Saimoto says the aim is to get people back to work.
“Usually we’ve had very good success transitioning people into work, sometimes it depends on the timing,” like a limited amount of field work in the winter.
The WING course offers entry level and safety training starting in October at the Houston campus.
Workers that lost their jobs at both the Houston Forest Products and Huckleberry Mine get priority registration – they’re encouraged to contact the college.
