A documentary criticizing the energy industry will have its screening next week in Smithers
To the Ends of the Earth looks into the affects the oil industry has environmentally, slanted with a message of diversifying the economy.
“The common message from industry and government is that we absolutely need these kinds of developments or our economies will collapse, but the numbers tell a different story,” says Filmmaker David Lavallée.
“I cover in the documentary our incredible dependence on fossil fuels…the fracking fields in the northeast(BC)…are a big part of the film,” says Lavallée. He frames society as meeting a crossroad with energy dependency and the economy.
The film covers drilling in the arctic, fracking across North America, and the process for extracting bitumen in Alberta.
Screening for To the Ends of the Earth have taken place across the northwest, and will be at the Old Church Monday, 7 p.m.
