After spending an estimated 6 years in Lebanon after fleeing his war torn country of Syria, a young refugee in his late 20’s will be calling Smithers home today.
Gladys Atrill, a member of his sponsorship group, says they’ve had limited information on the refugee.
“We’ll learn more after he gets here. He’s a young man, and he’s been living apart from his family under difficult conditions for several years. Hopefully this is going to be the start of something new for him that will be really positive,” says Atrill.
An apartment has already been set aside.
“We have a list of things we’re circulating of things we’ll need, and the needs will continue. we’ll be responsible for supporting this man for his first year in Canada.”
The Bulkley Valley Group of Five Refugee Sponsorship Group, along with other Syrian refugees living in Smithers, will be greeting him tonight.
