Smithers council talking affordable housing and transportation in Victoria

Smithers council will be talking affordable housing and transportation at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention this week in Victoria.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says they’re looking for support for a few different projects.

“As well as offering our support to the idea of a bike trail between Smithers and Telkwa,” says Bachrach.

On affordable housing, council plans on meeting with the minister responsible for housing Rich Coleman, particularly about grant funding for a proposed project.

“The town has entered a partnership with the Smithers Community Services Association and we’re hoping to see some affordable housing built on the LB Warner property up on Main Street,” says Bachrach.

They’ll also meet with Minister of Transportation Todd Stone about the regional transportation plan along the highway.
