The Smithers Steelheads won the first game of their CIHL season with a strong 5-2 victory over rival Terrace River Kings.
Coach Tom DeVries says good goal tending was a factor in Saturday’s win.
“He seems to keep us in the game, and then our players eventually find the net. It’s a good start, we have a road trip in Quesnel and Williams Lake this weekend. They have pretty strong teams, too.”
The Steelheads will be playing Quesnel Saturday and Williams Lake on Sunday.
