Short-term rental UBCM resolution

The Union of BC Municipalities made a resolution last week looking for the province to help control short term rentals.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says things like Air B&B don’t always pay accommodation taxes, something he’s heard from local hotels.

“It can away take away from your housing stocks if you have long-term rentals that landlords are turning into short-term rentals and turning intro Air BnB,” however, Bachrach says Smithers doesn’t seem to have the same problem with short term rentals like other larger municipalities.

The UBCM resolution want the province to look at regulations to ensure a level playing field.
