Last night, Trans Canada announced some funding dollars for Hope Air’s 30th anniversary.
They donated 30 thousand dollars to the non-profit flight service that flies low-income people in the north to health care services in larger centres for free.
Executive director for Hope Air Doug Keller-Hobson says they’ve done 250 flights out of Smithers so far this year.
“That’s a higher number than last year. I don’t think more people need Hope Air, I think more people are aware of Hope Air – people that are struggling financially, or with their health,” says Hobson.
He says they don’t have a wait list.
This year they’ll fly 12 thousand people across the country for free to access health care from remote areas. Hobson says 5 thousand of those flights will be in BC.
“BC is a province that needs the help. Geographically, it’s challenging.”
Over the last four years, Trans Canada has donated 70 thousand dollars to hope Air.
“When people donate, and companies donate, the money stays in the community. So what a great way to give,” says Hobson.
