Community Vehicle Grant Deadline extended

More community engagement is taking place for the highway 16 action plan, this time it’s for the community vehicle grant funding program.

There’s 800 thousand dollars available over 3 years for communities along the highway 16 corridor to apply for 70 percent of the cost and operation of community vehicles.

Assistant Deputy Minister of Transportation policy, and lead of the provincial action plan, Deborah Bowman, says applications have been extended to the end of the month.

“We’ll probably be responding in the early part of December,” to applicants of the grant, says Bowman.

She indicates all the communities involved in the Action Plan have to sign operating agreements before rubber can hit the road.

“Hopefully before the end of the year we have some transit running along a portion of the corridor. For some communities this is new ground for them.”

There’s a community engagement session at the Gitanyow Health Centre Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon.

They’ll also be holding a webinar info session tomorrow and next Tuesday.
