School District 54 school bus collision near Vanderhoof results in no serious injuries

A School District 54 school bus with a SD54 and Lakes District Secondary rugby team was involved in a motor vehicle collision at Highway 16 and Mcnolty Road At 8:30 this morning. (FRI)

There were no serious injuries among the 36 students, who Superintendent Chris Van der Mark says have been taken to St. John Hospital for a further look.

“The bottom line is everyone’s been in contact with parents. It’s unfortunate they’re going to miss their event in Prince George. but the bottom line is that they’re safe,” says Van der Mark.

RCMP say injuries to the bus occupants are minor in nature and limited to back pain.

District 54 and 91 will be arranging to transport the students home to Burns Lake and Smithers.

Another accident at Highway 16 and Saranovich involving three cars has completely snarled traffic to a crawl. Motorists appear to be using Derksen as a detour.

Drivers without snow tires are being advised to avoid the highways completely.
