Air Quality Advisory in Smithers and Houston

An air quality advisory is in effect for Smithers and Houston with restrictions on the use of wood stoves and open burning.

The Ministry of the Environment says only homes with a wood stove as their primary source of heat can burn wood.

The Ministry says it’s to due with concentrations of fine particulate matter in the air

Two low pressure centres sitting off the BC coast are dragging warm air northward into the valley, capping emissions from escaping.

The advisory is calling for people with chronic health conditions to postpone strenuous activity until it’s lifted.

The ministry is expected to give an update today with the advisory in effect until further notice.
