Province expected to make funding announcement for Hazelton Rec Centre tomorrow

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone is expected to make an announcement on funding for the Hazelton Rec Centre tomorrow.(WED)

Estimates for the capital project are pegged at 15 million dollars.

Chair of the Heart of the Hazeltons fundraising committee Peter Newbery says they’re expecting 5 million dollars from each the federal and provincial governments.

“We’ve been negotiating and so on, but what the actual amount will be is up to the minister and that is what’s coming out tomorrow,” says Newbery.

He says the owners committee is looking at an additional 4 million for equipment, furnishings and programs.

“We will still have lots of work ahead of us to put together the amount needed to really make a success of this thing.”

The minister is expected to make the announcement at 9:30 am in Hazelton.
