Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen is calling for people to stay calm as tensions rise surrounding the Gitxsan eviction notices.
Cullen says the situation has the potential to lead to conflict and costs to the Northwest economy.
He says it’s the provincial government that must take the lead in resolving the dispute over territory and operations on the land.
He says in the past weeks he has been speaking with the Gitxsan Treaty Society and is working with Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and First Nations leaders to help broker a solution.
The eviction notice includes all sport fishing, rail and forestry operations and is to commence August fourth.
