MP Nathan Cullen goes south for a taste of the US election

With Americans set to elect either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton as soon as next week, Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen has made his way south.

Part of the visit is to talk first-past-the-post with Americans, something Cullen’s tasked with changing here in Canada though the Electoral Reform Committee.

“A number of Americans have said to us…why these two? And i don’t know if that’s what the people chose or the system that brought them here,” says Cullen.

“I’m struck by no one asking the more fundamental question, as to why you vote under the first-past-the-post system that only reinforces the two party choice when much of the world has chose a different system.”

Recommendations from the committee’s tour and town halls across Canada and the northwest are expected to be detailed in a December report.

The report will outline what system voters favor.
