Smithers will have to start the alternative approval process for the borrowing of 2 million dollars for the airport modernization project over again after an error.

The AAP to allow the borrowing was closed a day earlier than required, meaning council will have to repeal the bylaw and start over again.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says it was a clerical error, and “I don’t believe there will be a significant cost. There is a requirement for advertising. But apart from that, most of all I think it’s a technical procedure,” says Bachrach.

He says it won’t affect the time line of any airport improvements under way

10 per cent of Smithers voters have be against the borrowing to stop it – the first AAP had three people opposed.

Coucil meets tomorrow tonight (TUES) to repeal the bylaw.
