The District of Houston will have Dennis Tait as the newly elected councillor after Saturday’s by election.
Tait had 149 votes while Nick Powell had 65 with a total of 205.
Now looking ahead at the municipal governance role, Tait wants to see more industry and economic growth in Houston.
“I hope there’s some opportunity here in Houston, cause we’ve lost a lot of industry,” including the mill, mine and grocery store, says Tait. “Get any industry or any grants from the provincial government. I’d be looking to sit on any committees that facilitates that.”
Recently retired, Tait was a regional district and municipal employee; and was also a volunteer fire fighter.
“People who live here love the place. We try to have a positive outlook, but the economy is affecting us.”
