Gas outage west of Smithers causes outages for over 500 costumers

A gas line on the west side of Smithers near Katelyn Creek was hit by a third party excavator at 9:40 a.m. resulting in outages for over 500 customers, according to Pacific Northern Gas.

PNG says technicians have isolated the damaged line and secured the area including their airport and possibly the school.

They say construction crews are on scene and repairing the pipeline.

PNG is “estimating reactivations to begin early this afternoon, and will have resources on-hand for relighting services at customer homes and businesses.”
