BC records 95 homicides in 2015

Police officers in BC were a little busier in 2015 after a rise in homicides.

Stats Canada Homicide Survey Manager, Leah Mulligan says the murder rate jumped 6%.

“The province reported 95 homicides in 2015 and increase of 6 from the previous year. The increase in British Columbia is comparable to other areas including Quebec, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories.”

Ontario accounted for the most homicides in Canada with 174.

Among the provinces, Saskatchewan recorded the highest homicide rate at 3.79 per 100,000 people.

The national numbers show a reported 604 murders, which is a 15% hike from the previous year.
