Bernier announces changes to BC curriculum for grades 10-12 students

BC teachers and students in grades 10 to 12 now have more time to start using the new curriculum thanks to a one year extension.

Minister of Education, Mike Bernier made the announcement on Thursday during a conference call in Vancouver and says several teachers wanted it moved.

“This is something they have asked for and have spoken with the BC Teachers Federation who have been very supportive of this move for all the teachers and students in this province.”

“Students are looking at course selection for their next years and what we heard loud and clear from teachers around the province was trying to bring in the curriculum now was going to be a bit of challenge on how that transition would work.”

Bernier adds the Foundation Skills Assessments will undergo a minor change. “The FSA’s will be going to an October-November schedule instead of the spring. This will really give us an earlier snapshot on how students are progressing.”
