Telkwa Mayor Darcy Repen takes aim at premiere with battle for a new water tower

The Battle for a new Telkwa water tower continues for Mayor Darcy Repen to deal with a low water capacity problem in the Village.

Repen’s frustrated the premiere couldn’t fit the village into the visit of Hi Tech Drilling and the Chamber of Commerce last week in Smithers.

“Why is she not standing up at Bovill Square and addressing the people of Telkwa and the Bulkley Valley? Why are you at a closed pay for access event? To come onto Wet’suwet’en territory, then hold an event then not even acknowledge that…I found it shameful,” says Repen.

He wants to sit down and discuss challenges on how Telkwa can move forward. Repen argues economic development is stifled by their water issues.

Council shifted some money in the budget this week to move forward with a study on the downstream system to help solidify their approach to fund a new tower and water capacity upgrade.
